Important Dates

Hi, everyone. Welcome to the start of the new school year! I am sure that students and families are anxious to hear about class schedules and teacher assignments. Please review the important dates below and mark your calendars accordingly.

First Day of School

The first day of school for ALL of our remote learners, grades K-12, will be Monday, September 14th. Be on the lookout for a letter from your child's "home" school with information about your child's teachers and class schedule. Teachers will reach out to students to explain how they will connect for "synchronous" (in real time) learning as well as expectations for "asynchronous" (on demand) assignments.

Chromebook Pick-up

Chromebooks will be available for pick up at your child's "home" school on Wednesday, September 9th. Building principals will share pick up times in the same letter mentioned above.

Open House/Curriculum Night/Title I Information Night

A virtual Open House  for Team Remote will take place on Thursday, September 17th. This will be an "asynchronous" event rather than a live Zoom meeting. I have asked the teachers to create an introductory video to be shared with you along with a short survey to document your "attendance" as well as any questions you would like to ask.

Welcome!

Dear West Genesee Community,

My name is Robert Leo and I will be leading West Genesee's "Team Remote" for the 2020-21 school year. I am a 1988 graduate of WGHS and spent much of my professional career teaching social studies at WGHS. After earning my administrative degree at LeMoyne College, I became the Model Schools Coordinator at OCM BOCES, leading a team of instructional technologists and supporting over 50 school districts' instructional technology initiatives. I returned to West Genesee three years ago as the Coordinator of Instructional Technology Training and focus on supporting teachers as they learn how to integrate instructional technology into their professional practice in meaningful ways. I will be the main point of contact for the district's remote learning program.

There are approximately 80 teachers representing all grade levels who will be teaching remotely this year, supporting hundreds of students. Although our teachers will be working from home, they will be collaborating with their colleagues to provide a consistent curriculum for our students. We are currently in the process of putting together a schedule to provide structure to the school day. We are also in the process of preparing the logistics for Chromebook pick-up for students and families. I will share the details once the plan is solidified.

I'm sure there will be lots of questions moving forward. Please feel free to contact me: rleo@westgenesee.org
